The cheer rang throughout the Winnipeg Art Gallery auditorium on May 2nd as the SCCS students performed Fiddler on the Roof, Jr.
The evening began with a Klezmer Band (Mrs. Lalonde, Ms. Sham, Dr. Penny and Michael Cutler) setting the tone as people entered the auditorium.
Then the fun began with 40 students between Grades 3-8 singing, dancing and acting their way through an hour of pure fun. At the end of the evening performance, the winners of the gift baskets were announced: Krystin DeLuca, Pam Currie, Lauren Fogarty.
The performances were sold out this year. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported this event.
Next year’s performance will be Dr. Dolittle and will be the last Monday in April. Save the date!
A showcase of talent
This year’s musical production, On this Island, Jr., was the tale of TiMoune, a poor islander who fell in love with a wealthy boy from the other side of the island. The classic love story, infused with a Caribbean beat involved a cast of 24 characters in Grades 2-7. Two performances, an afternoon and an evening, were held at the WAG on May 4th.
Our annual school musical is an outgrowth of the music program, which provides quality choral and instrumental instruction to all 260 students in the school. Celebrating our 7th year of musical performances this year, this year’s SCCS Spring Musical was produced by Mrs. Furtani with the support of Mrs. Sherlock, Mrs. Langlois and Ms. Ling the rehearsal directors, and Mrs. Houlahan. As in previous years, it was held at the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
Congratulations to the students who performed, the students behind the scenes, and the producer and directors on a job well done!
Come see next year’s production, Fiddler on the Roof, Jr.! It will be held on May 2nd, at the WAG.
