Who Loves Sports and Fitness

… SCCS and TD Canada Trust Bank!

Thank you TD Canada Trust Bank Charleswood for your sports/fitness donation to SCCS

Thank you to the TD Canada Trust Bank in Charleswood!  We found out that the bank was going to be making a donation to our school to encourage participation in sports and to promote fitness.  St. Charles Catholic School was very lucky to be the recipient of this donation!  Thank you TD Canada Trust! We are truly grateful!  Mrs. Narynski along with three Gr. 4 students had the opportunity to visit the bank to accept this very generous donation. Aside from the wonderful photo opportunity, the students received gift bags filled with all sorts of goodies, and Mrs. Narynski was given some recycling bags to help with some of the school yard cleanup on Christian Service Day.  Just before we left the bank, we were treated with a visit to the vault!   The generous donation will go towards buying phys. ed. equipment.

Toonies for Terry

… be like Terry

Terry Fox Day

Everyone knows who Terry Fox is, and every school has a day where they celebrate not only Terry, but take some time to come together to raise money for his important cause…cancer.  At St. Charles Catholic School we did just that on Friday, September 29th.  As a whole school, we collected “toonies for Terry,” and under the direction of one of our Phys. Ed. teachers, Mrs. Marsh-Hamm, we had a wonderful, uplifting assembly to get all of us ready for our annual Terry Fox Walk around our school neighbourhood.

Students, staff and even some parents, got their running shoes on and took off on a beautiful sunny afternoon to walk for Terry Fox’s cause.  There were smiles all around, and the excitement and energy was palpable.  We had lots of toonies donated, and parents also had the opportunity to donate on line at:

A special thank you to Alisa, Julia, and Lindsay, who spoke at the assembly, and to Rhea and Madison who spoke and shared a wonderful poster that they had made.  Also, thank you to all the fabulous patrols who worked very hard to make sure everyone was safe at every corner and intersection, during our walk.  What a fabulous day!

To Serve and To Give

…. should define your life!

Christian Service Day

What do the words Christian Service mean to you?  By definition, Christian service is believed to be the act of doing things for God with a willingness in the heart. Our Kindergarten to Gr. 8 students understand this definition very well.  On Friday, September 29th, all of our students spent the morning doing some type of Christian Service for others, all within our community.  The Kindergarten to Gr. 2 classes made some lovely cards/notes to share with those in our hospitals, the Gr. 3 class went to visit St. Paul the Apostle Church where they were involved in doing lots of odd jobs.  Our Gr. 3-4 class had previously helped over at St. Charles Church with their Harvest Supper preparation, and then went back to the Church to help out with other odd jobs.  Our Gr. 4 students cleaned up our playground, and the Gr. 5F class went to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, while the Gr. 5P class went next door to the Retreat Centre.  Our Gr. 6 class helped out at St. John XXIII, the Gr. 7 class spent the morning writing positive messages for the entire St.Charles community, and the Gr. 8’s spent the morning at Welcome Home, baking muffins and prepping groceries to help those less fortunate.  All in all, it was a fabulous morning not only of community service, but also of community building and teamwork.  At St. Charles Catholic School, we are always looking for ways to build community and work as a team.  We are very proud of our efforts.
